Seoul and South Korea
Maximum 6 people for an intimate look into life in South Korea. 6 nights in Seoul is a great introduction to the Land of Morning Calm or as an addition to your Japan trip. South Korea is a fine example of a country where new and old collide beautifully.
A rewarding destination, full of diversity, culture and industry, in a country where peace if finally possible and will reunite the peninsular again. Palaces and Buddhist temples have been carefully restored and some rebuilt. Seoul has an amazing collection of art galleries and museums often found in surprising places. There is no shortage of places to eat, both Korean and International.
We explore the markets and small pockets of traditional Seoul which still exist today on foot. And a driving tour shows the amazing architecture and infrastructure of a gigantic metropolis.
Seoul is shopping heaven with everything from ceramics, fabrics, cooking utensils, packaging, clothing, shoes, cosmetics and beautiful art brushes.
We will do 2 day trips. The first is to the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) where we venture into the neutral zone, the Joint Security Area, and feel the tension between the north and the south. Visit the Freedom Village, see the North Korean landscape and Dorason railway station, the last stop before North Korea A fascinating insight into the history and current situation faced by Koreans today. Lunch is included and is delicious. There are quite a few stops and this tour travels north of Seoul through the countryside.
The second day trip is to Gyeongju. Today we travel by KTX super fast train. This is a long day. On arrival we are met at Shin-Gyeongju station by our tour driver who will make sure we see all the sights of the ancient capital.
Gyeongju was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla (57 BC – 935 AD) which ruled about two-thirds of the Korean Peninsula between the 7th and 9th centuries. A vast number of archaeological sites and cultural properties from this period remain in the city. Gyeongju is often referred to as "the museum without walls".
This is a small travel group of maximum 6 people. Just a 2 hour flight from Japan, South Korea is a rapidly changing country and best to be seen sooner rather than later.
